The aim of interventions addressing congenital or developmental breast problems, which are an important element of a woman’s physique, is to achieve a symmetrical, natural, and permanent cosmetic result without compromising breast function (nipple sensation, lactation).
Who should undergo this procedure?
Those with insufficient breast tissue, either congenitally or developmentally (after weight loss or pregnancy), and those who desire firmer and fuller breasts.
How much augmentation is needed?
The preoperative decision is made based on the patient’s wishes, body and chest wall measurements, and the position of the breasts. During the surgery, the flexibility of the tissues is also taken into account. Implants of the most appropriate size and structure are placed.
Is non-surgical augmentation possible?
No! Breast augmentation with medications or liquid injections is not possible, and such products can even be harmful to your health.
Can augmentation be performed with fat injections?
Yes, breast augmentation with fat injections is possible. It has the advantage of being the patient’s own tissue. Disadvantages include the need for multiple sessions under anesthesia, the unpredictability of the results, and the potential for errors in imaging techniques. It is more frequently preferred as an adjunct to post-cancer breast reconstruction rather than for aesthetic augmentation.
How is the surgery performed?
After the necessary examination and blood tests, the surgery takes 1-2 hours under general anesthesia. Drains extending from each armpit are left in place for 2-3 days. An incision under the breast is often preferred, but an incision around the nipple or in the armpit can also be used. They can be placed under or above the muscle. When placed under the muscle, they provide a more natural appearance and do not cause problems with breastfeeding or radiographic imaging.
What types of implants are used?
Prosthetics are usually made of silicone layers with a semi-fluid (gel) interior and a solid (smooth or rough) exterior. Some models contain saline (water) interior. They are manufactured by different companies in different volumes and heights, and in standard or anatomic (teardrop) shapes.
Do implants need to be replaced?
The implants used today are quite durable and safe. They do not need to be replaced.
Can a breast lift be performed during the same surgery?
If it is thought that the breast lift will be insufficient to maintain the sagging breasts, a breast lift surgery is also added.
What should be considered after the surgery?
You may experience pain that is relieved with painkillers for about a week. After 2-3 days, the armpit drains are removed, and the patient returns to daily life wearing a sports bra. Strenuous sports and exercise should be avoided for one month.
Do you recommend massage?
No.
Can I breastfeed if I give birth in the future?
The mammary glands and ducts are preserved during this surgery. Breastfeeding is not affected.
What are the complications?
In addition to the potential complications of any surgery, late-stage tension in the tissue surrounding the prosthesis (capsular contracture) can, in rare cases, pose a problem.
